A lifetime of service to New Brunswick

Dr. “C. Roy” Epps Jr. dedicated 57 years of service to the Civic League of Greater New Brunswick, including 53 years as President and CEO. A visionary leader and tireless advocate for education, social justice, and community empowerment, he devoted his life to expanding opportunities for youth, strengthening families, and improving the quality of life throughout Greater New Brunswick.

Under his leadership, the Civic League grew into one of the region’s most respected community organizations, advancing youth development, educational enrichment, housing advocacy, civic engagement, and community-building initiatives. Dr. Epps also championed efforts to preserve and elevate the legacy of Paul Robeson, helping secure the renaming of Nathan Hale School to the Paul Robeson Community School, advocating for Paul Robeson Boulevard, and supporting the establishment of a Paul Robeson statue in the city.

Known for his unwavering commitment to service, Dr. Epps believed that every individual deserved access to opportunity and a chance to reach their full potential. His leadership, compassion, and vision touched countless lives and helped shape the future of New Brunswick for generations.

His legacy lives on through the Civic League’s continued commitment to empowering youth, strengthening families, and building a more equitable community for all.
